Tell Amazon to End Wasteful Packaging

Oh my goodness, it seems like it's been decades since I last wrote a blog entry. I've been busy, busy, busy, and I'll tell you more about that later. For now, I thought I'd share with you my latest crusade...trying to get all the items purchased in an Amazon.com order to arrive in one reasonably sized box.

You see, I wanted to send a baby shower gift to my friend Robin, even though I won't be able to make it to the party. She lives in the Bay Area, and I considered making the nine hour drive north, but the timing just didn't work out. I picked out four adorable, eco-friendly, non-toxic baby toys on Amazon to send in my place. I was smart and selected items all from the same seller, and requested that my order get grouped into as few shipments as possible. I even selected standard shipping, so they would know I was in no rush to get the items there.

So what happened? Despite my efforts, the four items I ordered have now been shipped in three different boxes. Ugh! It's wasteful but also annoying because the items I ordered are all rather small—teethers and rattles and such. I hate to think of each one arriving in a individual humongous box, because individually, each baby toy is pretty unimpressive. Luckily, Robin has a sense of humor and is likely to think it's great fun to open up several large boxes, root around excessive packing filler to find a teeny, tiny infant toy way down at the bottom of each box. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

I can't do anything about the order now that it's already shipped, but I do have at least one recourse. Amazon has set up a feedback web page just for their packaging. I've never used it before, but believe me, they're going to get an earful this time.

I find that Amazon usually ships stuff in appropriately sized boxes, so hopefully the ones they sent Robin were small! Although, I guess if you are ordering from a third-party seller, the packaging probably varies by seller and it's not really Amazon that is packaging the stuff.

I heard some company uses bamboo to as the crates for the products they shift.
